Let's get back to the basics, shall we?

What is God’s definition of “help meet” or “completer”? Let’s look at the list I have thrown together:
- share your man’s responsibilities
- respond to his nature with understanding and love
- wholeheartedly cooperate in working out God’s plan for your lives
- cooperation is not control – my husband needs a helper, not another mother
- become a team/eliminate competition
- be an encourager
- be the missing part in ways that he lacks
- be the heart of your home and your husband
- be his companion and soul-mate/friend
- help your husband reach his fullest spiritual potential
- be his prayer warrior
- be a safe haven, a place of trust
- partner in building a home and raising children together

Elizabeth George summarizes this role of “help meet” in this way, “I am on assignment from God to help my husband.” (Woman after God’s Own Heart)

As I consider why God made woman, I have to take some time to search my heart….am I more interested in promoting myself or in promoting my husband? Is my husband the center axle of my life? I cannot be pleasing to God if “my plans” are my center axle. Any plans that do not keep me focused on partnering with my husband are not God-honoring and have not come from God. Believe me love, I know it is hard. There are many women who are gifted by God and God can and will use us in many aspects but these ministries must be under the umbrella of her husband’s blessing and support. It’s not that women are not called to leadership positions in ministry and life but those roles should never interfere with or hinder your marriage nor place you in a position of authority over your husband.

As we are on assignment from God, we should possess a servant’s heart that seeks ways to bring joy and assistance to our life partner….the love of our heart…the man the Lord chose for us.

Many wives have taken on the role of drill sergeant for the home and our husband takes orders from us just like the kids! This was never God’s intention and we might be thrilled with how helpful our husbands can be if we quit bossing them around and wait for them to lead as God wants them to. We should PRAY for them to lead as God wants them to. Don’t let Satan destroy your home with his lies…truly, God’s way brings joy to each member of our homes as we trust His perfect plan rather than listening to the world’s interpretation of what’s fair and right.
